Why do staff members raise their own support?
We are a nonprofit organization and have no central funds. Staff members, including the director of Celebrate Messiah New Zeland, raise support to cover salaries, benefits, and expenses. Staff members seek ministry partners who will invest in their ministries through prayer, financial giving, and volunteer support. We believe this is God’s model. God’s plan to care for the priests and Levites of Israel who ministered to Him and to the nation was for the people who were blessed by their service to support them. Jesus, God in the flesh, chose to live and minister from the ongoing gifts of individuals who believed in who he is and what he was doing. He also taught his disciples that the ‘labourer is worthy of his wages’ (Luke 10:7). And the Apostle Paul passed this teaching to the New Testament church, ‘Now let the one who is taught the word share all good things with his teacher.’ (Galatians 6:6)
How is my staff member’s salary determined?
Salaries are determined by the need. Staff members may raise funds to cover their living expenses, extra expenses associated with their ministries, and a reasonable retirement plan (e.g. KiwiSaver).
When should I begin to send in contributions for my staff member?
It would be most helpful if you could start right away. Many new staff members work part-time or full-time while raising support. Once they are fully supported, they can focus full-time on the ministry to which God has called them.
How long am I expected to support my staff member?
That is a decision between you and the Lord. Our desire is that you would support your staff member for as long as the Lord enables you to do so. We want to build relationships with our partners. We’re in this together!
Will a small gift help?
Yes! God delights to take our gifts offered in faith and multiply them. Every gift, no matter how small, is also a great encouragement to us. Our ministry partners are made up of those who give small single gifts and those who give larger regular gifts. What you decide to give is between you and the Lord.
Why do I need to make my cheque out to CMNZ?
We want to be good stewards of the gifts that God gives us through you and to manage those gifts with the utmost integrity. Celebrate Messiah New Zealand is a registered New Zealand charity and we also follow Charity Commission regulations for contributions. You can include a note to let us know how you wish your gift to be used. If you wish to provide a personal gift to one of our missionaries, you may do so, but it needs to be specified as such. Personal gifts are not tax deductible.
Does all my support go to my staff member?
All contributions designated for the ministry of a staff member go into that staff member’s account, which is managed and dispensed by CMNZ. Then 6% is used for two major categories:
- Administrative expenses, such as processing payroll, benefits and other services.
- Helping to fund CMNZ ministries that are not yet fully supported.
How will I know if you received my gift?
We will send you by email or post, based on your preference, an acknowledgement for every gift. If you would prefer to receive just an annual statement each April for gifts given during the previous year, just let us know.
How do I start or change a recurring gift?
If you set up a recurring gift as a bank transfer, you will need to cancel that recurring transaction with your bank. If you have set up a recurring gift as a credit or debit card transaction, just let us know and we’ll cancel it for you.
